Originally the church was the village school until the present one was built. The old school building which belonged to the Church of England became the chapel-of-ease to Acklam church as Leavening was in the parish of Acklam.. In 1965 it was rededicated by the Bishop of Selby to the Venerable Bede
There are eight churches across the nine villages that constitute the Unified Parish of West Buckrose. There is one priest servicing the whole Parish. Michael is supported by a patchwork of retired priests, lay readers and other priests from the Deanery who lend a hand. In addition there is the P.C.C. which is elected to administer all the churches. Each church is run Churchwardens and by a small council the Village Church Council.

The Ven. Bede has just completed a Building Sharing Agreement with the local Methodists, so both congregations will share the use of the church. The refurbishment is now to go ahead when the finances are settled.

Pastoral Visiting - Visiting people in their homes is a very important part of the pastoral work of the Rector and members of our Lay Pastoral Team. Due to the number of communities and the wide area for which we are responsible, we find ourselves concentrating on visiting the sick, the bereaved and families preparing for the baptism of their child. If you would like to be visited, for whatever reason, or know of someone who would welcome a visit., may I please ask you to contact me and one of us will be delighted to come.

If you or someone you know are unable to get to church and would like a visit at home for Holy Communion, please contact the Rev. Michael Sinclair to arrange this
