Originally the church was the village school until the present one was built. The old school building which belonged to the Church of England became the chapel-of-ease to Acklam church as Leavening was in the parish of Acklam.. In 1965 it was rededicated by the Bishop of Selby to the Venerable Bede

There are eight churches across the nine villages that constitute the Unified Parish of West Buckrose. At present the Parish is in Interregnum after Revd. Michael’s retirement in August. The P.C.C. is organising priests to carry on the minimum services we need. There is a recruitment process going on but as the new incumbent will be appointed by Downing Street this will take some time.

The Ven. Bede has just completed a Building Sharing Agreement with the local Methodists, so both congregations will share the use of the church. Both Anglican and Methodists have contributed a lot of funds for the refurbishment which has now been completed (click on the picture hot spots below for more details)
