On Sunday 13th April 2008 at 6.00 pm, there was a special service held in church to celebrate the signing of the Building Sharing agreement between the Anglican and the Methodists of this community. Both congregations would share the Venerable Bede and the Methodist’s School Room.
The church was full with both the Anglican and Methodist congregations. In addition to the Vicar there was: The Archdeacon of York, the Diocesan Registrar, and the Methodist Circuit Superintendent Minister.
The signing occurred midway into the service and took a while as there was a document and a copy for both buildings. Of course then there had to be signatures for both sides and respective witness signatures!
The event was a very inspiring affair which gave a good start to a long partnership between two Christian traditions. Locally both congregations had closely supported each other’s events and latterly proceeds from both sides where split to support the two buildings.
