At the beginning of August the building work that heralded the church refurbishment commenced. It was completed in time for Christmas! Below is a gallery of photo’s showing the progress.
Here are a few improvement the refurbished church has (See Plans):
- The orientation of the church is to be swung around 90 degrees, so that the altar is facing East from the current North.
- It is more accessible with a suitable toilet and a shallow sloped footpath outside.
- There will be a small kitchen area.
- There will be a Vestry and store.
- The old entrance will now be an emergency exit and a possible entrance for coffins.
- The chairs will arranged in a semi-circle facing the altar and will be folding so they can be neatly stowed away to clear the floor area for other activities.
- The new windows will all be double glazed and with the new heating system the building will be more efficient to heat.
There is a joint Methodist/Anglican committee for the joint management of this building (and the Methodist Hall) which is responsible for decisions on maintenance and operation.
The Methodist School Rooms has also been given a make over (see Church Rooms)
