In this section I have grouped together all the broadly demographic information that I have available at present. By far the largest section is History. This information has been culled from the work of local Historian Don Howarth. He has produced pieces of work which he intended just for local consumption, but I believe is of interest to a wider audience. So with Don’s consent I have reproduced the relevant pieces. In History there is also an overview of the growth of Christianity in recent centuries and the division of it between the Methodists and the Anglican Church. There is also a look at Robert Addison who left us his Topographical History of Leavening which he wrote in 1831. Finally there is an overview of the two local historical sites the Bronze Age Aldro Enclosure and the Norman motte of Mt. Ferrant Castle. In Historical Resources there is a page of links to sites useful ( I hope) in the the persuit of family history
In Geography there is a brief account of the land formation and demography which helped create the character of Leavening.
There is a mapping resource so that you can see where we are and how to find us.
