“See ME!”

See building works

Head teacher: Mrs M. Mellor. Tel. 01653 658313  E-mail

The school celebrates their centenary in the existing building in 2006. The event was marked with a weekend parade and party for all. This was planned and researched by the children. It was paid for by the money the children generated through the work in their companies in our Enterprise project last academic year. For photo’s of the parade. Parade Photos

This celebration coincides with a decision by the LEA to replace the temporary classroom with a brick built classroom extension. The school is hoping to contribute money from the school budget and funds raised to include in this building project a new entrance, reception and office. This would reposition the entrance to the school and enable the existing office to be converted into a staff room. In this way marking the centenary in a lasting way by making improvements to the school for the next 100 years!

The school in Leavening also serves many other nearby villages. The start of school is busy time for Back Lane with the arrival of coaches, minibuses, taxis and cars all bringing in children. the school is an important part of village life. Apart from its educational function it also serves as a surrogate village hall. Many groups use the school in the evenings and it also plays host to annual events such as the Leavening Show.
Leavening Community Primary School is a Group 1 Local Education Authority School administered by North Yorkshire County Council whose central offices are at Northallerton. The School, established in 1906 and extended in 1964 and 2003, takes in children of all abilities from 5 - 11 years of age. The catchment area includes the villages of Acklam, Leppington, Scrayingham, Howsham, Thixendale as well as Leavening. There is a nursery operating for five mornings per week offering 17 places for 3 and 4 year old children. The children enter school the term after their third birthday, depending upon availability of places at that time as the nursery serves a very wide area. The children move from nursery into full time school twice a year, in September and January.
The School is divided now into four classes of children attending school full-time, and the nursery class which is in session for 5 mornings per week. The internal organisation can vary from year to year due to such factors as the number of children on roll and the teacher allocation, which is dependent on the number of children. The composition of the classes varies from year to year and this also influences the organisation. Therefore the teaching staff and governing body are continuously reviewing the situation and making changes or adaptations which are necessary to promote the efficient running of the school coupled with the best possible educational provision for each child. In 2005/2006 the children are divided into classes as follows:-

Nursery, Kittens:

5 mornings per week with children of 3 and 4 years of age. These children are taught by Mrs. Dawson with Nursery Assistant help from Mrs. Wasley. .

Leopards:

All under the theme of CATS - Caring, Achieving, Talented Students!

The National Curriculum is taught within this organisational framework and provision is made for the different year groups. The yearly plans are subdivided into half term detailed schemes of work and these are available in school for any parents wishing to see them.

Nursery offers a crèche facility on Wednesdays, which extends the child’s stay from 11.30 to 15.15, for a modest fee

The Cheetahs Children 's Club was closed down due to under use and the pressure of the other commitments of the staff running it
