Leavening Play Area is a village resource, which was originally built in the 1990’s. It was refurbished approximately five years ago. The original play area was created by the Village Welfare Fund and parents of children who were then of an age to use it. In order to make grant applications more likely to succeed, the play area has charity status. This means that there should be a management group to run it and be responsible for it.
The land on which the play area is built on is owned by NYCC, but it now transpires that it is part of the school land! As the Fund have been paying rent to NYCC there is to be a meeting to discuss the ramifications for the School, LPAA and the Parish Council who are responsible for the  liability insurance.

The Fund raising did very well and raised the monies needed by a combinations of events, and grants. The Village Welfare Fund gave £1700, Lottery Community Fund awarded the LPAA £5000. With the events, an auction of promises in November raised over £1400! Leavening County Primary School have been very supportive and have hosted fund-raising events Nursery hosted a sponsored Toddler Bike ride organised by parent helpers and which raised £205. An early fund-raising event was a comedy night which did very well. This was hosted at the Jolly Farmers, who also held other smaller events throughout the year. At the last fete the LPAA held a stall, there was a garden party

There was good support from the village despite that at present there is competition from both the school and the church for funds for their own projects.

A big thank you to the core of parents who organised and helped out with the fund-raising

The main building is now complete, but there remains some work to be done. The ground work needs finishing, with possible the laying of turf. The site needs a sign/notice at the gate and some planting for the Summer would be nice.
